From January 2012 to 12/17/2012 as I write this story I have lost 60 lbs. Since the very first day that I looked in the mirror at 250 lbs. I have lost a total of 90 lbs., ran my first Bellin 10k, countless 5k's in just under 30 minutes (a far cry from a 40 minute 3/4 mile), complete 1 hour elliptical training sessions as my Friday easy day work out, and I completed my first half marathon on September 15th of this year. While I was running my children both cheered me on with a sign that said "Our mom runs 13.1 because we drive her half crazy" a statement that couldn't be truer. I do run because of my kids because if I don't take care of myself who is going to take care of them?
I joined Western Racquet four months ago and my experience has been outstanding. Whether you prefer free weights, cardio machines, group exercise classes, yoga classes or personal training, Western Racquet has it all. With over twenty group exercise classes a week to choose from, there is no excuse not to go to the gym. The instructors and trainers are experienced, professional and very motivational. They encourage you and push you to go further, but they make sure you are doing things the right way. I have gained confidence, strength and friendships at Western Racquet; the energy is contagious. Western Racquet is the best kept secret in the Green Bay area, and I am so happy I walked through those doors three months ago.
Western is one of those places that just makes you feel happy inside as soon as you walk in the door. I know I will see a smiling face at the reception counter, I will be greeted by instructors on my way to the locker room, I will meet up with friends for laughs and encouragement, and most of all, I will experience a great workout every single time I walk through the door!
After losing 130 lbs, I continue my journey to lose weight but my focus has become my health - building my cardio and muscle strength and eating healthy.
Western has become a significant part of my fitness journey. Western allows me to experience many different types of programs under one roof - from kickboxing, to cycling, to strength training, to TRX training, to yoga, to personal training and much more. Additionally, Western's instructors motivate me to participate in community fitness events, as well as provide the tools to train for the events. Each week I can't wait to plan which classes I can attend around my work and home life. I love that Western offers so many classes, at so many different times, to accommodate my busy life!
Being a member at Western Racquet and Fitness Club has been a remarkable experience for me. 18 months ago, I made a decision to get serious about changing my lifestyle. I had given birth to my second daughter 6 months prior and was in pretty rough shape physically. I had been struggling (to say the least) with post-partum depression and healing from a c-section. These things, in addition to the other obstacles many moms have over the course of a day made it hard for me to get to the grocery store, much less the gym.
Since my journey began, I have met and made friends with quality people at Western. The instructors, trainers and members there have inspired me, driven me, educated me, and most of all, reminded me to love my body and myself. Although they may not know it, they have helped me through some of my darkest days just by being there everyday, doing their jobs. Because of Western, my attitude toward life has changed for the better and I am excited to begin each day with an amazing workout and great company. I no longer suffer as I did in the beginning, and, as a bonus, I can finally see the muscles that had been hiding under the pounds of unhappiness I felt with my body. They had been gone for too long. My definition is beautiful! Thank you, Western!
Western Racquet and Fitness Club is the premier fitness center in the area. As a pro bodybuilder, I spend a lot of time here. Western Racquet and Fitness Club provides all the top notch equipment to allow me to keep progressing. From the free weights to the machines to the cardio equipment, I couldn't ask for more!
After moving to the area in 2007, I got a gym membership at the YMCA thinking that was the best in the area. It didn't take long for me to figure out that the YMCA was definitely not a place for me. I began searching for a new place to workout and found Western Racquet and Fitness Club. I was glad my search was over for good and found "my gym."
As a member for over 5 years, I've seen the many changes made to the building, equipment, and staff. I have to say that the changes made have only added to what was already the best in the area. Whether you like to play tennis, racquetball, basketball, participate in various group classes, use free weights or machines, or just use the various cardio machines, Western Racquet and Fitness Club has something for everyone.
Don't make the mistake I did and get a membership at the YMCA. Just come check out Western Racquet and Fitness Club and I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
At the age of 41, being 5'6", weighing 210 lbs - I finally took that step to become healthy again. I knew I had to make some specific decisions and choices that would only benefit me. I've been a memeber at Western since January 2012 and it was one of the best life-changing decisions I made... now at the age of 43 and weighing 165, I feel great, I feel healthy and I am better shape now than in my late 20's!
I've always had a love for music and dancing; and one day a friend of mine introduced me to Zumba and I was hooked! I started my first class in the far back corner of the room. It was harder that I thought it would be, but I remained positive and kept going to as many classes as I could. I slowly moved my way from the back of the room to the middle then eventually to the front. After that there was no where else to go, but "up" - so after a year of enjoying the world-wide sensation of Zumba Fitness.... I am now one of the instructors here at Western and I truly enjoy the group fitness interaction, love the energy and grateful that Zumba Fitness and Western changed my life for the better!
I joined Western almost 12 months ago now and I have to say I am extremely happy with the results I have received. When I walked through those doors, I had no idea what to expect, no knowledge of fitness or where to start. My best friend/trainer helped me to understand fitness and make the greatest lifestyle change I never thought was possible. I have lost about 64 pounds since January 21, 2013. Even though it may be a little on the expensive side, this gym has amazing amenities from tanning to steam rooms, saunas to a hot tub, basketball court to tennis courts, massages to amazing group classes, etc. even though I have never taken a class, I know the instructors and fitness trainers and they are ALL amazing! They are there to help you in anyway they can, no matter what. They will push you to your limit without exceeding an unsafe zone for you. I love being here because the environment is just awesome. There are always people around to help you if you need advice on something, classes are free with membership excluding TRX and heated yoga. The membership is totally worth it for the buck. Never give up on your goals and when those goals are met, make more. Hope this helps in making a decision to give Western a try for a week :)
One year ago, I began my journey to better health and fitness. I was out of shape and overweight, had high blood pressure, and high cholesterol, and sat on the couch a lot.
I made the decision to join Western Racquet and take control of my health. It hasn't been an easy road, no silver bullet, just hard work and changes to my eating habits. I knew that in order to accomplish my goals, this was the way I had to do it.
As of today, I have lost 61 pounds and I ran my first Bellin Run this past June! My wife and I participate in local 5K's together, and my daughter is going to train with me for a half marathon next year. My blood pressure and cholesterol are under control.
I can't say enough about Western Racquet. From Axel, my trainer, to the entire staff, they are outstanding. They have helped me stay on track, encouraged me along the way, and truly take a personal interest in your journey. I cou;dn't have done it without them!
Thanks to Kari and the entire staff at Western.
I set a goal of losing 17lbs by Christmas, and today 10/30 I reached that goal.
I would attribute the success to all the great classes, like In a Minute, TRX, Insanity, and Spin. Not to forget I had to change my diet. But the classes gave me the workouts I needed to reach my goal. Now I have set out to lose another 10 by Christmas. I will continue to stay close to Kari for advice and modifications to my work out plan, and look forward to sharing another success milestone with you over the holidays.
PS - The smoothies are awesome
Gotta love Western for all they do!
I have always been athletic and involved in sports most of my life, but never really learned or cared much about fitness. I always thought being in shape meant being thin, and after having my first child, that was my post-partum goal. We joined a family-friendly facility in town, and after several months of taking the same classes over and over, we lost the weightâ¦and our motivation. The same old routine classes started to get boring, and we had hit our target weight loss goal, so we stopped going. No one at the gym noticed and we didnât really miss it. After having my second child, my husband and I were ready to become motivated again. A friend of mine got us to try Western with a free trial, and we loved it. We joined almost a year ago, and couldnât be happier.
The people at Western have taught me that whatâs more important than being thin, is being strong, no matter what size you are. Theyâve taught me that fitness is about challenging yourself while still having fun, smiling and laughing with friends. I have met some amazing people here, both employees and other members who push me to be better. There is a certain energy and attitude that the people inside these walls have that is empowering and contagious, and you find yourself wanting to be around it all the time. At the other gyms we belonged to, no one really knew our names, no one noticed when we were there, and no one cheered us on. This never happens at Western because they really care, and they want you to succeed. I was never a fan of working out, but now I canât wait to go to the gym because it is so much fun at Western! Because of this fantastic club and because of the people in it, I have become a better wife, mom, daughter and friend. Now I know what the true meaning of fitness is, and it will always be an important part of my life.
