Our staff member in the spotlight this week: Certified Personal Trainer Andy Gaustad! You may know him as one of the friendly faces you see behind the trainer's desk, but did you know he worked as an adjunct instructor at the Unversity of Colorado?

Q: How long have you been a personal trainer?
A: 16 years

Q: What is your educational and certification background?
A: MS, NSCA-CSCS Certified Personal trainer. I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from UW-Green Bay and a Master’s in Health Science from the University of Colorado where I was also an adjunct instructor for two years.

Q: What made you want to become a personal trainer?
A: I enjoy helping others and I love fitness.

Q: What is your favorite kind of workout?
A: Bodybuilding style and heavy functional.

Q: Do you participate in any other fitness activities outside of Western?
A: Road biking, mountain biking, hiking, paddle boarding, and most recreational sports.

Q: What’s your favorite non-fitness hobby (or hobbies)?
A: Playing with my dog.

Q: What motivates you?
A: I want to enjoy my life to the fullest for as long as possible. If I stay strong, I can do that.

Q: What’s your favorite song to work out to?
A: "Ladies and Gentlemen" by Saliva, "Enter Sandman" by Metallica

Q: If you could train any celebrity, who would you pick?
A: Arnold and Stallone

Q: Do you have a favorite quote or any words of wisdom you can share?
A: Judge by actions, not words.

Q: Where is the farthest you’ve ever traveled?
A: Puerto Rico

Q: What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?
A: Kenny Chesney w/ Jason Aldean (I'm not even a huge country fan either)

Q: What’s your favorite junk food?
A: Pretzels and dark chocolate, if you can call that junk food. Otherwise, I don't eat junk food.

Q: What’s something you’re proud of?
A: I'm proud of our team and all the effort we do helping people.

Q: If you had to have a career outside of fitness, what would you want to do?
A: Physician
