Learn about their expertise and background, plus some fun facts!

Our staff member in the spotlight this week: Corporate Membership Director, Rock Steady Boxing Coach, and Group Fitness Instructor Katie DuBois! You may know her as one of the friendly faces you see teaching Rock Steady Boxing in the Multi-Purpose Studio or kicking butts in a group ex class, but did you know she also competed for 4 years on her college Alpine skiing team?

Q: How long have you been at Western?
A: I joined as a member in 2016 and I was hired in September 2017.

Q: What is your title/job description at Western?
A: Corporate Membership Director / Rock Steady Boxing Coach / Group Fitness Instructor

Q: What made you want to work at Western?
A: Western helped me change my lifestyle and find my passion for working out and lifting. I wanted to share my journey with others and inspire them to do the same!

Q: What is your favorite activity to do at Western?
A: Teach ALL of my classes and lift the heavies in our new Strength Studio!

Q: What is your favorite kind of workout?
A: Something that makes weightlifting feel like cardio, and challenges me in a way where I want to give up....but I don't. 🙂

Q: Do you participate in any fitness activities outside of Western?
A: Not regularly, no. I have taken some CrossFit classes and do so from time to time and have also considered joining an adult soccer league! Play again like I used to!

Q: What are your favorite non-fitness hobbies?
A: I love cooking, especially for other people. I enjoy taking long hikes in the woods with my dog and anyone else who wants to come along! I really love skiing in the winter with my family, and I like to travel with them when we have the time and can. I have always loved seeing new places, learning new things, and adventure!

Q: What motivates you?
A: A goal I have to be a teeny bit better each day.

Q: Who inspires you?
A: No one in particular...I am always just drawn to and look up to people who are authentic, have a strong sense of self, and go after their dreams no matter what. Those things truly inspire me, and I look up to people like that.

Q: If you could work out with any famous person, who would you pick?
A: Michael Jordan - I've been a big fan since I was 9, and I think he could teach me a lot about mental grit and mindset.

Q: What’s the most interesting place you’ve ever visited?
A: Alaska, for sure!

Q: What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?
A: Celene Dion was a pretty epic show when I went way back when, and Pink was amazing last summer!

Q: What’s your favorite junk food?
A: Mega stuffed Oreos and Ruffles potato chips

Q: What is one thing on your bucket list?
A: Go on a road trip across the country with my family, visiting as many national parks as we can!

Q: What’s the best part of your job?
A: The connections with people that I have made and continue to make.

Q: What’s something you’re proud of?
A: I'm pretty proud that I started my own business (A Plus Learning, LLC) back when I was a stay-at-home mom when the kids were little.

A: I was born and raised in Massachusetts. I have a degree in journalism. I competed for 4 years on my college Alpine skiing team. I met my husband on a plane. My daughter is my doppelganger, just with blonde hair. I can speak gibberish. I have never met a cheese I did not like.
